When High School teacher Kendra Desola opens an anonymous email she expects to find a bitter complaint from a parent, or a snipe from one of her back-biting co-workers. Instead, a photoshopped attachment shows Kendra getting way too friendly with her male students.
She intends to stop this lie before it circulates, but before she can locate the source, the suspicious death of a colleague brings the police on campus. Kendra now fears the email was a set up, to make it look like she had a motive for murder. What if the cops get wind of the email and buy the “evidence” that she’s a child molester, or a murderess, or both? Kendra plays off an unknown adversary as she desperately seeks to prove her innocence in a School of Lies.
Excerpt
“A perfect end to the perfect lunch,” Kendra muttered, hugging the wall to dodge a stream of water dripping from the overhang. Several noisy students immediately burst upon her, nagging, complaining, offering up the latest tidbits of news. Kendra apologetically squeezed past them into her classroom and bumped the rickety door until it locked behind her.
She flopped into her desk chair and tore at her lunch bag. The condiments had completely soaked the sandwich wrapper. She went to a supply corner to get paper towels but had barely grasped the roll when something moved at her feet.
Her scream brought the next-door teacher thru the door that connected their classrooms. They both watched a small snake glide over the linoleum and slip through one of the many gaps in the plywood siding.
“Are you okay?” The man held a half-eaten cookie in his hand. “You’re lucky it wasn’t a rattler.”Kendra nodded, still out of breath from her dash across the floor. The teacher said, “Want me to check the rest of the room out for you?”
“No, I’m fine. See, I can even breathe now. That critter was harmless, go back to your lunch. These portables are like sieves, you know. This place is a zoo even without kids.”
The teacher smiled and retreated to his room. Kendra cautiously approached the closet. The floor was still not bare. There was an envelope that should not have been there. The note inside said “Check your email.”
