This book was not written to boast about the serendipity and miracles it reports. After all, these events are actually the work of God’s hand. The miraculous events recorded here, as we called them at Westside, are God thangs—works of the Spirit—about which no one can boast. Neither was it written simply to tell the stories of all the astonishing things that happened in the five years of Westside’s outreach to the New Orleans community, of all the lives that were changed, of all the people who were transformed by the love of Christ. To be candid, too many God thangs happened at Westside to be recorded here. Ultimately the purpose of this book is to share how you, your church and your community can be transformed in the very same way.
Heed this caution: if you are content in your spiritual life and do not want to risk experiencing the transforming power of Christ, then do not read this book. Do not practice the principles discussed in these pages or follow the procedures explain in the final chapter. Disregard the stories, explanations, testimonials and demonstrations contained here. Otherwise you too may open the door to the Spirit of God and ultimately find yourself transformed, empowered and swept away in the flood of God’s will for your life.
